Ronika has won significant praise for her homespun mix of classic dance and crisp, modern pop. The funk-led disco escapism of her last EP drew heavyweight comparisons with the likes of Gwen Stefani, Prince and Tom Tom Club. This new release broadens out her sound once more, whilst exhibiting that same nerdy twist on her influences. ‘In The City’ is a floor-filling and euphoric update on the urban hedonism of Inner City or Black Box: it also boasts co-production from the anonymous Citizen (who has remixed Azari & III and Adele). Equally strong is the shimmering ‘Only Only’: driven by handclaps, Italo synths and Ronika’s soulful vocals - it's another effortless turn from “the Madonna of the Midlands” (Electronic Rumours). Ronika is multi-talented and multi-tasking singer, songwriter, bedroom-producer, remixer, DJ and video director, residing in Nottingham. She started out writing soul tunes inspired by Sly Stone on an acoustic guitar and went to her first techno all-nighter at the age of 14. This led to a trainspotter love of disco, an obsession with programming beats resulting in a wealth of brand new sounds and songs. A chance googling of ‘Ronika’ found that there was a planet of the same name in Star Wars: a common exile for criminals in the Great Hyperspace War, Ronika was a colonial landscape, home to both stinger moths and ultraviolet levels of radiation. Back on earth, a pop star alias was born. It’s Nottingham – home to rising stars Dog Is Dead and Liam Bailey, amongst others - that Ronika’s wry and occasionally surreal take on larger-than-life Pop originates. She writes, records and produces in her increasingly-cluttered bedroom, an aesthetic she played with in her video for ‘Forget Yourself’. Using archive footage run through malfunctioning VHS machines she’s adopting similar techniques for the video for Only Only inspired by “naff Top of The Pops graphics, silhouettes, reverse contrasts, split-screens and body-popping.

Not really of Empty Room tonight at the Stade de France for the launch of the 2011 European tour of Prince . 40 000 spectators (estimated Purple Police) braved the prohibitions of funk-stage, a good half has certainly missed the surprise appearance of an additional guitarist in the set of Sharon Jones and the Dap Kings. Emerged from the bowels of the SDF, Prince landed at 7:53 p.m. ET Telecaster plate casserole over a long extrapolation of "Tighten Up" and "Superbad" and then returned to the corridors ... by bike! An hour later, the intruder djellaba and his band of eight musicians (including Maceo Parker ) take the stage for a show river-marked by 2:40 at least three-Himalayan peaks: The first recovery of impromptu and transcendent " Come Together "Beatles, followed by a bewildering medley bass / drums slaps around the telluric" 777-9311 "," Head "and the theme of" America "Revisited in the fuzz bass. Frustrated by an end of the game a little rough at the Stade de France (curfew forces), Prince decided to play extra time in the Company, a trendy restaurant in the Latin Quarter. In front of hundreds of happy few (Christian Louboutin, Dita Von Teese, Gilles Lellouche, Cécile Cassel, Jérémie Renier), the artist has jammed with Sharon Jones & The Dap Kings before taking possession of the stage to 3:50 am. Accompanied by his band NPG, Prince delivered a short show (45 minutes) but intense that showcases funk to her repertoire: "A Love Bizarre" extended play mode punctuated by a sax Maceo Parker still green, before to pick up on "Let's Work" and "U Got The Look" Revisited. Prince then left the microphone to the singer Shelby J. for a cover of "Misty Blue" by Bob Montgomery, before concluding with an atomic version of "We Live To Get Funky", punctuated by guitar solos and the glowing welcome support from Maceo and the brass section of the Dap Kings. In the morning, Prince rushed into his limousine and left the place Saint Germain to the applause of the public.
