Global week of action in support of Charles Hector « ALIRAN

Several court hearings in the case of U.S. $ 3.2 million for defamation against the human rights defender and activist Charles Hector by Asahi Kosei took place in the last five months. The case was filed February 14, 2011 and is now set for trial full of 24-26 August 2011.

In addition to various petitions against the company and its buyers, the Asian Human Rights Commission (AHRC), Forum-Asia, Frontline, Article 19, the Observatory for the Protection of Defenders of Human Rights, the World Organisation Against Torture, FIDH, Human Human Rights Watch and many other civil society groups have also expressed concern.

Representatives of the European Union were present and monitoring of court proceedings to date. Representatives of Norway in Belgium, Royal Danish embassies in Malaysia were also present at the hearings. Thirty-one MPs signed an Early Day Motion in the British Parliament about the action against Hector. Note that workers' complaints have not been resolved by any of the authorities, despite the workers with complaints filed with the Department of Labour and Human Rights Commission of Malaysia since February 2011.

Another two-week course to get rich, but Asahi Kosei still refuses to drop the case and none of the companies involved have done the right thing.

On February 12, 2011, Charles Hector sent a letter to the public statement by 77 organizations concerned with this matter, and but there was no response from the Japanese government to date.

We now call a global week of action on August 15 to 19, 2011 for trade unions, migrant associations, support groups in Burma, workers / human rights and organizations of the country and loving justice people to seek a meeting with the Japanese embassies in their countries. The goal is to express concern and ask the embassies to do everything possible to get Asahi Kosei immediately withdraw the case against Charles Hector and ensure the immediate reinstatement with full rights and benefits of all the Burmese workers affected.Five workers were not taken back to work at the plant since February Asahi Kosei.
