OCC's Orchard Ridge blooms
Garden details Peace Park Garden: Located on the southeast side of M Building; has peace pole, a newly paved path and a small Japanese-style foot bridge. The Peace Park is filled with colorful and aromatic hydrangeas, hosta plants, and red coral bell flowers brought from the personal flower beds of Beautification Committee members.
Oakland Early College Grass Garden: Located on west side of G Building to the left of the stairwell, this plot is named for the innovative OCC-West Bloomfield Schools Oakland Early College program based at Orchard Ridge, which graduated its first class in May. It is filled with blooming shrubs, plants and trees.
Rose Garden: Located on the north side of F Building on the lower Plaza area, this appropriately-named site is filled with aromatic varieties of roses.
Project Bold Garden: Located in the lower Plaza at the front entrance of J Building, this plot, named for the college’s support program for students with learning difficulties, features a flowering crab tree with its decorative bright red, white and pink flowers.
Hosta Garden: Located at the west end of J Building, this garden features a wide variety of hosta plants in various green shades. Some of these beautiful rock garden plants were brought from retired faculty members’ gardens.
Library Garden: Located on the east side of D Building, the campus library, this garden was created by librarians and library aides to provide students with a serene area to read and reflect.
Butterfly Garden: Located on the south side of J Building, the Butterfly Garden originated as a biology class project designed to enable visitors to view the life cycle of butterflies. The students have registered the site with the National Wildlife Federation.
Mum Garden: Located between F and J Buildings, this garden features white, yellow, pink, purple, orange and red chrysanthemums — perennials that bloom in the late summer and fall.
East of M Garden: Located on the east side of M Building, this site at the campus’s entry features a weeping cherry tree that sprouts one inch saucer-shaped pink and white blooms. A picnic table with an umbrella for shade is on the site, which is frequented by students who eat their lunches there.
