South Jersey Man Person of Interest in Warminster Stabbing

A South Jersey man is a person of interest in the stabbing death of a Warminster, PA, man over the weekend.

Police said the man, described as 5 feet tall and with facial injuries resulting from the early Sunday morning attack, is from the Paulsboro or Camden area, and is considered one of four or five persons of interest in the case.

That suspect and the other men who attacked and killed 30-year-old Tyrone Newman knew him, Bucks County District Attorney David Heckler told Patch Monday.

Heckler said they have a clear idea of who the other subjects are, but they have not yet uncovered the name of the subject with the facial injury and only have his nickname.

"I am confident these suspects won't remain in hiding for too long," said the D.A.

Newman was stabbed during what authorities believed was a party in the K building. After stabbing Newman multiple times in the neck and stomach, the attackers fled into the M building, according to details from Heckler and Warminster Police Chief Michael Murphy. Newman died shortly after being taken to at Abington Memorial Hospital.

What happened next is still being sorted out by investigators. A source close to police told Patch that investigators are focusing on a foot path that leads to the Warminster Heights public housing development as the escape path for the suspects early Sunday.

The wooded area behind the M building was searched today by Warminster police and cadets from the Montgomery County Police Academy, said Murphy. There was no word if any evidence was found.

Heckler also said investigators did gather physical evidence from two apartments in the M building Sunday afternoon. A resident of the building said that she saw police take a large rug, a Pepsi bottle and multiple bags of evidence out of the building.

As police continued their investigation, family and friends convened in the Warminster Heights neighborhood where Newman grew-up Monday evening. They marched to the site of the crime and held a vigil.

Candles were placed onto one of blood drops that stained the grass behind the K building.

Nate Canada, who is related to Newman, led the group of mourners in a prayer while embracing four of the children who lost their father yesterday morning.

Newman, a father of five, was back in the area after working in Delaware, said family friend Norma Brauer, who called his death "sad.
